COACHING STAFF


Bob Vilven

 

Bob has coached a variety of youth sports for over 35 years. For the last 19 years, he has served as the Hurdle Coach for Cathedral Catholic High School. Bob was a multi-sport athlete in high school and college, and he competed professionally in Europe in both Basketball and Track. Bob was inducted into the St. Francis High School (La Cañada, CA) Hall of Fame for his success in Track, Basketball, and Football. He was also recently inducted into the Cathedral Catholic/USDHS Hall of Fame as a “Friend of Sport” for his many years of service working with the Athletic Department at both USDHS and Cathedral Catholic. Bob will oversee all events, with an emphasis on Hurdles.

 

 

Dan Geiger

Coach Geiger has over 20 years of high school coaching experience at both University of San Diego High School and Cathedral Catholic High School. He has been the Head Track & Field Coach for 20 years and the Head Cross Country Coach for 20 years. During his tenure the teams have won over 20 league titles and 10 CIF titles, and recently added a State title to his credentials. He has been named San Diego Coach of the Year on 4 separate occasions. Coach Geiger has worked with a variety of event groups over the years but specializes in distance, jumps and relays.

 

 

MORGAN LIONE

Morgan has 10+ years of coaching experience. Her background as a former Division I collegiate heptathlete and pole vaulter and experience in coaching cross country coupled with her M.S. in Exercise Science provides her with a strong foundation to coach a variety of events. Morgan's primary specialty is pole vault in which she has coached athletes at all levels, from beginners to collegiate vaulters. She has a sincere heart and passion for track and field and for all the athletes she coaches. Morgan looks forward to working with each athlete and helping them grow and improve.

 

 

Dick Robinson

Coach Robinson has been the distance coach for Eagles Wings Track Club for three years.  He has had a passion for running all his life, being an All State HS Cross Country runner in Massachusetts, and then at the University of New Hampshire.  He was highly ranked in his age division here in the Dirt Dog series.  It is with this enthusiasm they he can be seen running with the Eagles Wings athletes and Cathedral athletes during the summer and winter runs.  In his spare time he enjoys his job as an engineer and spending time with Karen, his wife of 30 years!

 

 

Mission Statement

The purpose of the Club is to educate youth on the variety of events within the sport of track and field. The Club provides training and competitive opportunities in which athletes learn positive sportsmanship, increase self-confidence, and socially mature as members of the community. A variety of teaching methods are used in order to improve athletic abilities and educate lifelong fitness habits. Practices are held year round at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, CA.
