 PAST SEASONS

2023 TRACK SEASON

San Diego Association Championships: Our San Diego Championships brought many personal bests for the year. Champions of the County were Avery Robinson in the 100M and 200M, Weston Cobb in the High Jump, Emma Blanton in the 3000m, and Amaya Bryant in the 100M Hurdles. Placing in the top three in the Country were Braden Pegg, 2nd in the 100m hurdles, and 3rd place in the 200m hurdles and High Jump. Paige Summa finished 2nd in both hurdle races, and her teammate, Lily Greene was 3rd place in both hurdles races. Katie Kissinger was 2nd place in the Javelin, Annie Sunstrom raced to a 2nd place finish in the 100m hurdles as well. Lucas Derheimer ran personal bests in the 800M and the 1500M and was 3rd place in both races. His sister, Annemarie Derheimer, jumped to a 3rd place finish in the Long Jump. Matias Zamora finished 3rd in the Shot Put, and Avery Robinson also finished second in the long jump as well. Twenty-one athletes qualified for the Region 15 Meet.

Region 15 Championships: Antelope Valley College was the site of the track meet, and despite the strong winds, our athletes battled through the elements for some great results. Avery Robinson was the champion in the 100M, but a nagging injury kept him from his other events. Braden Pegg was second in the Multi Event Pentathlon, missing first place by a mere 6 points. In the individual hurdle races, he finished 3rd and 4th and qualified for the Nationals with those efforts. Weston Cobb finished 4th in the High Jump, while Lucas Derheimer ran to a 6th place in a grueling 1500m race. Katie Kissinger threw the javelin to an 8th place finish at the meet. These five athletes all qualified for the National Meet with their performances.

California State Games: The event was held in San Diego again and it was announced that San Diego will be the site of the National Meet next year in July. This meet gave many of our athletes a final chance to better their personal marks for the year. Zeke Dillinger set personal records in all three events. Lucas Derheimer was the Champion in the 1500M, while Josh Bell was the Champion in the 3000M run. Braden Pegg had 2nd place finishes in both hurdles, and the High Jump. Katie Kissinger finished 3rd in the javelin with her personal best throw of the year.

USATF National Meet at TracktownUSA in Eugene, Oregon: Three athletes were able to compete in the National meet in Eugene, and all three used the meet to achieve their best marks of the season. Braden Pegg competed in the Pentathlon (100MH, Shot Put, High Jump, Long Jump, and 1500M run). Braden set personal bests in three of the events, and his 14th finish was the best for any 13 year old in the country. His point total was 300 better than his qualifying event at the Region 15 finals. He was also able to qualify for the semi-finals in the 100M hurdle race as well. Lucas Derheimer ran his best race of the season in the 1500M run. Excitement reigned supreme as he won his heat in a 5 second improvement and finished 12th out of 75 competitors. Katie Kissinger took her PR into the meet and continued to improve on her best mark so far. Her 19th overall finish was her best effort of the year and there were 61 competitors in her event as well. Congratulations to these athletes and a job well done.
